                               SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE

                                                                                                               BY Candy Paull

The world offers plenty of negative comments and criticism.  You don't need more criticism---you need encourgement and support.  A circle of supportive friends can encourage you to reach your full potential and make life easier and more fun.

Think about your inner circle.  Who believes in you, supports you, and has a positive attitude?  Which friends drain your energy with complaints, criticisms, and a negative outlook?  Pray about whom you should spend more time with and whom you should spend less time with.  Actively seek to surround yourself with supportive friends.

My personal response:  i had a difficult time with this one.  it ended up causing me to isolate myself for days and weeks at a time.  i had friends that would call to dump their load on me without asking how i am feeling, do i need anything.  they would usually go straight into themselves knowing they knew my situation.  i finally worked through it by the Grace of God giving me strength and wisdom to know that i did not have to allow it.  i told some of them my feelings about it or i screened my phone calls.  if i did not feel like talking i would do to my friends like i do bill collectors.  ignore them.  i also have surrounded myself with positive, christian people.

Aidpage group discussing "Social Worker"...

Feel free to participate in this public group space.

Two easy ways to do this:

  1. Add a comment or a question here - on this page... or on any other page in this space.
  2. Or, if you want to start a separate thread - make a new page.

Either way is good - the important thing is your participation. On Aidpage, people support each other by speaking out and by paying attention to each other - as simple as that.

About MSWindebt

I am a 29 year old sinle woman living in NYC and working as a Social Worker.  Unfortunately I grew up in a single parent household wih no assistance for college, and no assistance learning how to make smart financial decisions.  I completed 4 years undergraduate school at the University of Albany with a Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology and a Masters of Social Work at Fordham University, so that I could use my experiences to help others.  And here I am at 29, in complete debt because I took out student loans to pay for my education.  I am looking for grants, or volunteer work or anything that I can do to get aid to pay off my 80,000 student loan debt.  It is awazong how a lawyer with graduate from law school with just as much debt, and make that as his salary.  As a social worker however, I am lucky enough to have started with a 43,000 a yr position which in NYC is not enough to live comfortable and pay off loans.

Struggling forever it seems

have been struggling about money issues for several years now. I also have struggled with depression have been struggling about money issues for several years now. I also have struggled with depression but this seems to be under control for now. I just cannot seem to get on my feet financially though I am educated and qualified for a good paying job there are few to be had now. I am working at low paying call center jobs. I lost my most beloved friend, my dog Beau, 2 years ago, and this great loss will never lessen for me I am afraid. I can't get my teeth fixed, get my car looked at, buy clothes, pay all my bills, bring my cat to the vet, or ever EVER have any peace of mind due to this constant hell of not enough money. If you haven't been there thank your lucky stars. It is so stressful and causes so many tears you cannot imagine. This month I just don't have enough money to live on. When one continually doesn't have enough money to live one wonders just why he or she is here. Why does God put us here and NOT provide for us? Any assistance would be appreciated. I am dead tired of this struggle but this seems to be under control for now. Personal grants

HI,

I am in need of a personal grant to help me with my student loans, medical coverage for my 18yr old, and just to get back on my feet. I am working but being a Social Worker does not afford me the big bucks and paying for my education and my daughter's can be expensive. I realize a lot of people have these same problems and maybe mine isn't as bad as others, but I still need the help. I am a 6yr verteran of the US Navy without bennefits for education and limited medical for myself. If anyone can help please let me know.

Thank you.

I am a soical worker in New York City.  I love my job and helping people more then anything.  I am having a huge problem paying off my student loans.  I owe $113,000 for my degree and my paycheck will not support these payments.  I will accept any help anyone can offer.  Even if it is just free advice of how to manage an expected payment of $800 monthly towards my loans.  I have tried to work with borrowers, but they will not lower my payment.  Please help.

Thanks.

Know Queen

I am a social worker that believes that knowledge is power. I am willing to be a resource for people that need to find out how to do anything legal to help themselves and others. If I do not know I will find someone that does. I have a large pool of smart people around me that love to help and love to think they know everything and combined, they just might.

I really do not have money to offer anyone at this point since i am a single mother myself w/ 4 children. But, I do stand as a testament that you can do it!

Power to the people! and May God help us all.

Financial Blessing

I am a college graduate who is overwhelmed with 100,000 in student loans. While I can't complain too much as I have a little food to eat everyday.  I am looking for someone who can give grant money to pay this  large gorilla hanging over my back off.  It's getting to the point where I just want to give up and  not work anymore. I think if I claim depression I could collect upto 1000.00 a month in social security.  Anyway,   any donation would be great.

Hello

My name is Tina and I am going to OSU graduate school for my MSW.  I currently work with the severly mentally disabled.  I love my job and I feel that I will be able to do more to assist my clients if I have my MSW.

I am trying to raise my 2500.00 tuition for this quarter.  I do not qualify for Student loans yet because I am currently enrolled as Non-degree till I take the GRE.

My employer will pay for my tution but only at the end of the quarter and OSU said I have to pay all the tuition up front.  I would really like to stay in school and I have applied for private loans but do not qualify due to my middle sister defaulting on  a personal loan I co-signed for her.

Thanyou for reading my page, God bless.

I am a 36 year old , married, female , who is in need of paying back debts due to hardships in the past 3 years.  My  husband  had a good paying job but got layed off due to economical decline after 9/11.  He has been working on and off for the past 3 years.  During that time we had 2 children and I have been supporting my family on  a social workers salary.  I have been trying to make ends meet with my paycheck and childcare expenses.  We live paycheck to paycheck and owe aprox. 15K in debt due to loss of income, disability, and childcare issues.
